Steven Donovan thought his son was destined for success. Scott was handsome, Ivy League educated, and on his way to becoming a rock star in LA with his band. What Steven never anticipated, however, was the severe heroin addiction that would plague not only his son’s life but also the well-being of his entire family.
When Scott returns to Colorado to live with his parents and get clean, Steven and his wife, Kathryn, do everything they can to help “cure” him. They send him to rehab and even attend support meetings to better understand their son’s struggle and remedy their own ignorance about addiction.
But they soon realize there is no easy cure. As Scott undergoes multiple recoveries and relapses, Steven and his wife also face their own crisis: neither can agree on the right approach to save Scott. Whether it is Steven’s tough love or Kathryn’s unwavering support, as parents they must learn to rely on the support of the AA community and their determination and power of forgiveness to heal their broken family.
Fast paced and heartfelt, this novel is an inspirational portrayal of the devastating challenges and miraculous triumphs many parents of addicts face on the journey to recovery.
