Print on Demand. This book examines the modern iterations of Protestantism and its evolution from the old Protestant system based solely on knowledge of Holy Writ. It discusses how the old system of Protestantism declined due to factors such as the historical examination of the New Testament and the growing indifference toward dogmatic systems. The book also analyzes the rise of a new Catholicizing movement within Protestantism marked by a return to the authority of the Creed, the increased importance of ritual, and a shift in the understanding of the sacraments. The author emphasizes the importance of Protestantism retaining its foundational elements of personal faith and Scriptural authority and calls on readers to help guide the Church in a way that combines its traditional strengths with the demands of the present time. By doing so, Protestantism can avoid becoming a mere imitation of Catholicism and instead remain a vital and relevant force in the contemporary world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

In my wish to make this version of what he said thoroughly intelligible to my own fellow-countrymen, I have, with Professor Harnaclc's full authority and approval, ventured upon a few departures from the exact words of the original. In so doing my sole object has been to give a general application to [expressions which were in the first instance used of Germany alone, and thus to adapt them to the needs of a new audience. That that audience may be a large one is a hope which I entertain, not only out of considerations of personal friend ship for the speaker, but also from the con viction that what he has to say is well worthy of our best attention.
