Think Like a Top Scorer: ACT Math is built around the current 45-question, 50-minute ACT Math section and the full tested content range.
The book begins with the relationships that need to become automatic. Mean × number of values gives the total. A rise from 10% to 15% is 5 percentage points but a 50% relative increase. Successive percentage changes compound. Average speed is total distance divided by total time. Dividing an inequality by a negative reverses its direction. A negative discriminant means no real roots. Powers of i repeat every four. A 2 × 2 determinant is ad-bc. Conditional probability may change the denominator.
Geometry goes well beyond basic triangles and circles. Similar figures, scale factors, arcs, sectors, tangents, chords, secants, coordinate geometry, conics, three-dimensional figures, special triangles, right-triangle trigonometry, and the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines are all developed directly.
Functions are covered through notation, composition, graphs, tables, transformations, piecewise rules, inverses, sequences, rational functions, exponentials, and logarithms. The book also includes vectors, matrices, complex numbers, normal distributions, z-scores, statistical inference, and other smaller ACT topics that are easy to neglect.
A major part of the book is method choice. Students practice when to use direct algebra, substitution, elimination, graphing, backsolving, plugging in, estimation, or Desmos. Forty questions are devoted only to choosing the best solving route before any calculation is done.
Practice becomes progressively less predictable. Chapter sets establish the mathematics, Part reviews remove topic labels, and later sections combine skills across domains. The Mixed Challenge section contains 52 questions built around unfamiliar presentation and multi-skill chains, followed by targeted work on common errors such as signs, restrictions, units, and solving for the wrong quantity.
The final sections include pacing drills, a complete ACT Math reference, three 45-question full-length tests, timed Geometry and Trigonometry practice, and timed Statistics and Probability practice. One full-length form deliberately disrupts the usual difficulty order to train recovery when a difficult question appears early.
A QR code in the book also provides access to additional full-length online practice at CollegePrepRoom.com.
