Comical equine and soldier-related manuscript. R.A.S.C. stands for the Royal Army Service Corp, which was responsible for transportation logistics to the British army. R.F.A. was an abbreviation for Royal Fleet Auxiliary, which is a naval arm. So it would appear this is a naval officer making fun of his land-based colleagues who are not up to snuff as horsemen, at a time that the horse still had an huge role in combat (although the era was coming to a close just then. N.d., First World War period, probably earlier in the war. Oblong, 13 by 19 cm. Title followed by six leaves, each with a full page watercolor and short humorous caption. In these depictions of army life, the antagonists are entirely horses, who outsmart and dominate the men. The only hint of a war is that the local language is French, and the several of the buildings look a lot more French than English. The humor from the few words is likely to fall flat with modern audiences, but the visual scene should tickle and please. The horses are well-rendered, and Marchant is able to capture their motion effectively. His men are not quite as fully realized, but there are several caricatures that are well-done, and other figures, although sketchily done, might be similarly drawn by a professional illustrator in the particular scene. Some stains on the title and within. No real compromise to the imagery. Title leaf about 3 cm less wide than rest. We don't know for sure whether the strip was cut later, or this is the way it always was, but we tend to think the former, based on the contours of a stain. One spine staple gone.…

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to White Fox Rare Books and Antiques, ABAA/ILAB, New York, New York, U.S.A., +1 (646) 701-3520, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
Shipping terms
The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
