Does your home tell the story of who you are?
In The Things That Matter, Nate Berkus shares intimate stories from his life, introduces the people who shaped his sense of style, and reflects on the experiences that have left a lasting mark on who he is today. From treasured flea market finds to beloved books, photographs, and travel mementos, each object reveals a deeper story about identity, memory, and meaning.
Berkus invites readers into his own home as well as twelve others, including a sleek steel-and-glass high-rise overlooking Chicago, a rustic Hudson Valley cottage, an ultra-chic atelier that maximizes every inch of space, a Greenwich Village townhouse filled with art, and a minimalist retreat in Marfa, Texas. Each space offers a beautifully curated portrait of its owner’s life and the choices that define it.
With warmth and insight, Berkus presents his philosophy that the things we surround ourselves with truly matter. Our homes reflect where we’ve been, who we’ve loved, and what we value—creating a deeply personal and meaningful way of living.
