Item description from seller

Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart is a landmark of African literature and a foundational text in postcolonial studies. Set in late 19th-century Nigeria, it follows Okonkwo, a respected Igbo warrior in the fictional village of Umuofia, whose life unravels as British colonialism and Christian missionaries begin to reshape his world. Achebe masterfully contrasts traditional Igbo society - rich in customs, proverbs, and communal values - with the disruptive forces of European imperialism. Okonkwo's personal downfall mirrors the broader cultural disintegration, making the novel both a tragedy of a man and a lament for a civilization under siege. This Folio Society Edition has orange boards with color illustrations. The book is in fine condition, the slip case has a 3cm faded panel from sunlight near opening on one side.
