Paperback. Jack Gilmour is a man who trusts what he can see, fix, and code. After a corporate meltdown in Silicon Valley, he's spent his life avoiding the "weirdness" that follows his witch partner, Eva. But when he's hired to bring high-speed internet to Le Lutin-a "ghost island" on Lake Superior that doesn't appear on any modern map-Jack finds himself in a battle between the digital age and ancient magic. The WiFi keeps going down, the cameras are being blinded, and the local "wildlife" seems to be wearing tiny squirrel suits. As a series of apocalyptic forest fires consume the mainland, Le Lutin becomes more than a job site-it becomes a final sanctuary. But the island's owner wants to sell that peace to the highest bidder, threatening to pave over a paradise protected by the Memegwesi, a race of "little people" who have successfully remained hidden for centuries. When a legendary lake spirit rises to defend the island from "progress," Jack must decide if he's going to fix the tech or join the resistance to save the only home he has left. No Such Thing as Gnomes is a genre-bending urban fantasy about the collision of modern technology and ancient myths. It is a story of a cynical man finding his faith in the impossible, a family finding a home in a crumbling world, and the realization that sometimes the things we try to "fix" are the very things that end up saving us This item is printed on demand.
