Item description from seller

xxi, 392 pages : illustrations ; 20 cm ISBN 9780140193657, 0140193650 OCLC 36679578 Reprint. Originally published: Boulder : Shambhala, 1984 ; stiff paper werappers ; Originally published in 1954, The Theory of Celestial Influence is an exploration of the universe and man's place in it. Drawing extensively on the teachings of Russian mathematician and esotericist P. D. Ouspensky and Greek-Armenian Esoteric doctrine teacher George Gurdjieff, author Rodney Collins examines 20th century scientific discoveries and attempts to unite astronomy, physics, chemistry, human physiology and world history with his own version of planetary influences. He concludes that the driving force behind everything is neither procreation nor survival, but expansion of awareness. Collin sets out to reconcile the considerable contradictions of the rational and imaginative minds and of the ways we see the external world versus our inner selves. ; Rodney Collin (26 April 1909 - 3 May 1956) was a British writer in the area of spiritual development. His work was heavily influenced by his teacher P. D. Ouspensky and G. I. Gurdjieff and their system of spiritual development. Collin was one of the most well-known of Ouspenky's students and a prolific writer. In addition to his best-known work, The Theory of Celestial Influence, Collin's other work includes The Theory of Eternal Life, which uses some of the ideas of The Theory of Celestial Influence as a point of departure to formulate a theory of the cycles and potentials of souls, e.g. reincarnation, and The Theory of Conscious Harmony and The Mirror of Light, which are more spiritual explorations of humanity-faith, acceptance and forgiveness. ; FINE.…
