July 24, 1955), nicknamed the "Texas Tornado", was an American stage director and producer, best known for launching the American regional theater movement and for introducing the theater-in-the-round concept in Dallas, Texas. In 1947, she established the first regional professional company when she opened Theatre '47 in Dallas. Of the 85 plays Text: engl.Jones staged during her Dallas career, 57 were new, and one-third of those new plays had a continued life on stage, television, and radio. Jones played an important role in the early careers of a range of playwrights, such as Tennessee Williams, William Inge, Joseph Hayes, Jerome Lawrence, and Robert E. Lee. Requisite Rinehart colophon present on copyright page. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Black cloth is bright and clean. Pages and endpapers are clean. Underneath DJ flap is the previous owner's name neatly written on the front pastedown. Shelf-rubbing to cloth at tips. Original DJ with $3.00 price intact on flap. DJ shows shallow chipping along edges and tips. Slight sunning to red hue on spine. DJ shows light soiling. The author, Margo Jones, aka "Texas Tornado", was both a stage director and producer, largely responsible for the American regional theater movement. Of note, Margo Jones green lit Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee's widely rejected play, giving it its World Premier at her Dallas theater, under her direction. That play was Inherit the Wind, and would go on to live in infamy. Later that same year, in 1955, Margo Jones would suffer a tragically bizarre death. And despite her premature death at age 43, she was instrumental in helping launch the careers of Tennessee Williams, William Inge, Joseph Hayes, Jerome Lawrence, and Robert Edwin Lee; of which Lawrence and Lee established the Margo Jones Award, in her honor. Theatre in the Round is Margo Jones first and only book; her experiences of theatre-in-the-round from its early beginnings in Ancient Greece to making it work today; step by step, and filled with anecdotes.
