Paperback in Good condition. Light staining to bottom front edges of pages due to dampnes. Not Inscribed. 292 Pages. Illustrated. Thackeray created in Becky Sharp, heroine of Vanity Fair, the most irresistable amorial woman in English literature. He excelled in depicting the late Georgian world in which he grew up, yet came to be seen as a defender of Victorian values. A comic writer of genius, he was haunted by melancholy and nostalgia. Such contradictions create the unique flavour of Thackeray's writing.
