Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of early Christian literature, specifically focusing on the role of Old Testament quotations in Christian arguments against Judaism. The author meticulously examines a collection of "Testimonies," which are essentially curated excerpts from the Old Testament used to support Christian claims and refute Jewish beliefs. By comparing these Testimonies to various early Christian writings, the author reveals that these collections were not simply random compilations, but carefully constructed arguments used in debates between Christians and Jews. The book argues that these Testimonies were not merely later additions to Christian thought, but a foundational element of early Christian doctrine, even predating the New Testament itself. The author then goes on to demonstrate how these Testimonies influenced the structure and content of several New Testament writings, particularly the Epistle to the Romans. By analyzing Pauline arguments and comparing them to similar arguments found in the Testimonies, the author reveals a deep connection between the two, shedding new light on the development and early transmission of Christian ideas. The book ultimately reveals the importance of understanding these early Christian arguments in order to fully grasp the complexity and evolution of Christian thought. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Matthew of the New Testament, and the book itself with the much disputed Logia upon which Papias commented. These Logia were now conceded to be Old Testament Oracles of the Lord, and not, as we had at one time supposed, a collection of the Sayings of Jesus. This important conclusion had already been reached by previous students, notably by an anonymous writer on the Oracles of Papias in 1894, by Prof. Burkitt in his book The Gospel History and its Transmission in 1906, and by Dr E. S. Selwyn in The Oracles of the New Testament in 1911.
