Testament of Friendship is a 1940 memoir by Vera Brittain that chronicles her deep, lifelong friendship with fellow writer Winifred Holtby, whom she met at Oxford after World War I. The book serves as a tribute to Holtby, detailing their shared experiences, parallel writing careers, and mutual support through personal tragedies, including the loss of loved ones in the war, until Holtby's untimely death at 37. It is considered a classic of women's literature, celebrating a powerful bond between two intelligent and courageous women. Key aspects of the book: Subject: The life and friendship of Winifred Holtby, a writer best known for South Riding.
