About this title

Synopsis

Test of Character

Victoria Colwell has built her career on precision, protocol, and unwavering loyalty to Chief Minister Pence Garda. But when a military assessment at Fort Delvaine goes catastrophically wrong, she discovers that eight years of managing political crises hasn't prepared her for the deadliest threat of all: family.

When Jaden Oram—the Chief Minister's beloved grandson—falls from an ancient climbing wall during his final military evaluation, Victoria's analytical mind immediately recognizes what others dismiss as tragic accident. The timing is too convenient. The response too prepared. The explanations too rehearsed.

Someone orchestrated this attack with surgical precision, and they used their intimate knowledge of the Garda family to maximize the devastation.

As Victoria digs deeper, she uncovers a conspiracy that reaches into the highest levels of government—a systematic infiltration designed to replace civilian oversight with something far more dangerous. The person she trusts most may be the architect of everything she's sworn to protect against.

But institutional betrayal is only the beginning.

To expose the truth, Victoria must abandon everything she believes about proper procedure and legitimate authority. She'll need help from Agent Vanessa Kaine, a specialist who operates outside normal channels and fights by rules Victoria never learned at university.

Together, they'll discover that saving constitutional government requires unconstitutional methods—and that some wars can only be won by those willing to sacrifice everything for the people they love.
