Gid Ralston arrives at Bellwether Creek Elementary's spring fair with ten dollars in his pocket and a plan to buy a solar kit. Then he spots a dazzling mystery-prize machine promising a rare silver rocket. One exciting spin becomes an irresistible "almost," and soon Gid is caught between what he wants now and what he might wish for later. With Tess, Bram, and Axo helping him see through the machine's tricks, Gid discovers that winning isn't always about getting the prize. Sometimes the smartest choice is walking away-and putting your money toward something that can become far more exciting than luck: an idea of your own.

Leo Hayes believes childhood should be filled with curiosity, imagination, laughter, and plenty of color. He loves children's books because a few pages can open the door to an entirely new world-and sometimes inspire a child to ask a very big question.

Leo enjoys creating stories where kids can laugh, explore, make mistakes, solve problems, and discover something new along the way. He especially loves the colorful world of children's books, where technology, friendship, adventure, and imagination can all come together.

When he isn't writing, Leo is usually dreaming up another adventure for curious young readers.
