The relationship between technological change and economic development is intimate and complex. Many contemporary events have contributed to this complexity. Economic development necessarily depends upon productivity of the factors of production. Economic development is essentially a social process. All factors must contribute at their best. Testing empirically with the tool of production found technological change to be the most important source of output growth. Technological choice and adoption are important aspects of economic engineering. The history of the Industrial Revolution in the west shows that the process of rapid technological transformation has not been merely the result of new improved technical processes. The socio economic development of an area is influenced by a large number of factors operating in an economy. The ASI definition of variable is used in the present study. The present study has covered trends in partial factor productivity ratios and total factor productivity indices and estimate parameters of Cobb Douglas and Constant Elasticity of Substitution Production. Thus the Kendrick Solow and Divisia Index of total factor productivity has been used in the present book. The Cobb Douglas Constant Elasticity of Substitution Variable Elasticity of Substitution and Translog Production function form of production function are used. The present book covers 161 industries group for the purpose of analysis. The data used for the analytical purpose are gathered through secondary sources for the period 1973 74 to 1997 98. Thus the validity and reliability of the results will depend upon the validity and reliability of the data. Moreover the implications of the present study confined to coverage of the industries. 454 pp.
