Teaching and Learning in Sport Management: Pedagogy in Practice explores the current state of play in sport management education, focusing on the pedagogical methods and best practices that shape student learning and professional preparation.
The book examines the historical development of sport management education, general teaching practices, and innovative active learning approaches that enhance student engagement. Engaged learning is a central focus, including discussion of community-engaged models, industry partnerships, and Work-Integrated Learning opportunities that go beyond traditional internships. The book covers core topics, including accreditation, assessment methods, the use of technology in teaching, and the application of pedagogical theories to sport management education, as well as innovative teaching practices such as design thinking, peer mentoring, interdisciplinary projects, and on-campus employment as valuable tools for enhancing student experiences. It also discusses the transition from industry roles to academia, offering insights into career shifts within higher education.
Presenting a forward-looking guide to the evolving landscape of teaching and learning in this dynamic field, this book is essential reading for any current instructor in sport management, for doctoral students about to embark on a teaching career in sport management, and for practitioners in the sport industry looking to build stronger partnerships with higher education.
