Though this disposition to give all diligence to the work, is a pre requisite to success, which nothing can supply, yet great advantage may be derived from a knowledge of the experience of others, and of the results to which different modes of organization, instruction, and discipline have conducted them. So that, while on the one hand, a school established according to the most approved directions would, in the absence of such devotion as we have above sup posed, languish and die without character enough to preserve its memory; yet, on the other hand, a school of the best materials might be conducted with far greater facility and success if its energies were applied in such manner and form as experience and observation Show to be best adapted to the end.
