About this Item
1822. [Report from Select Committee on Petitions Relating to the Local Taxation of the City of Limerick.] The report begins by setting the scene, and providing a valuable picture of Limerick in the early 19th Century. After considering its commercial potential, the committee then produce a damning indictment of the governance of the city, and calls for radical overhaul. The minutes of the committee, including its extensive interviews with the towns populace, the original petition (signed by 258 people) are included in the Appendices. There are also extensive reproductions of historical papers relating to Limerick, including the charter of the city, the fixing of its boundaries, letters from Lord Lieutenants, Lords Justices and various Privy Councils relating to the betterment of the city. Accounts for the running of the city (primarily over the previous 10 years) are shown in incredible detail, as are members of the Grand Juries and councils. This is a document of incredible significance to Limerick and the wider region. In excellent condition. 213pp. First edition copy. . . . Books ship from the US and Ireland.
