The author's best-known & most important work, a Series of linked Poems, inspired by a Lady, fond of blank Verse, who desired the Poet to expound upon the 'Sofa', which inspired him enough to bring forth this Volume. First published in 1785 and influential on the works of Jane Austen, Coleridge, Wordsworth & others. Hardcover, full brown leather, black leather spine label. General wear & rubbing, some foxing, staining & tanning to pages - a few quite heavily spotted, old ink price inside front cover, damage to rear pastedown - perhaps the rear free endsheet has been torn out. Text clean; 212 pages + 4 pages publishers ads - they were Philadelphia booksellers as well as publishers. Size: 4�" by 6�".
