When a curious dachshund named Goldie meets a pelican by the shore, they quickly notice how different they are—one flies high above the ocean, and the other runs low to the ground. But despite their differences, they realize they share something even more important: the ability to be great friends.
This delightful story will captivate young readers with its themes of friendship, acceptance, and celebrating diversity:
- Understanding differences: Goldie and the pelican learn that being different is something to embrace, making this story perfect for teaching kids about inclusivity.
- Friendship and kindness: Shows how friendship can blossom unexpectedly, reinforcing the value of kindness and openness.
- Social-emotional learning: Helps children recognize and appreciate similarities and differences in others while building emotional intelligence.
- For dachshund lovers: Fans of this loyal, spunky breed will adore Goldie’s adventurous spirit and charm.
- Educator and parent-friendly: Encourages conversations about diversity, building relationships, and empathy in an engaging, child-friendly way.

★ 13th Annual "Best Book Awards" USA Book News (2016) Book Cover Design In this charming picture-book sequel to her award-winning Tall Tale, How Dachshunds Came to Be, Kizzie Jones shows us that true friendship is not just about looking past each other's differences ... it's about discovering and celebrating those differences.
"Dachshunds and Pelicans and the Beach, oh my!! This enchanting book combines some of my favorite things to tell a story about friendship. A terrific gift for youngsters of any age. I enjoy reading it to my grandchildren and then listening to them read it to me. I always ask them what the moral is in any story. They have no problem telling me the moral of A Tall Tale About a Dachshund and a Pelican.
They even embellish the explanation with examples from Ms. Jones' previous book, How Dachshunds Came to Be: A Tall Tale About a Short Long Dog. We are eagerly awaiting her next book. Bravo Kizzie Jones and Scott Ward!" --Edythe Ann Stromme, Co-founder & President Children's Caucasus Children's Relief Fund (CCRF)
