This tall, skinny (12" x 5") book is a follow-up to the similarly proportioned "The Tall Book of Mother Goose" (1942) and again features over 100 illustrations by this Russian-born illustrator - winner of a Caldecott Medal - who moved to America in 1941. This copy, if not a first edition, is certainly an early printing. The only comment on the copyright page is: "Copyright, 1944, by Artists and Writers Guild, Inc. Printed in the United States of America". The rear flap of the dust jacket contains just some reviews of the Mother Goose book, and the front flap has the price of $1.00 intact. The book is very good indeed, with some slight wear to all extremities, particularly base of spine, and some even tanning of the pages. Oh, and there's a bookseller's label on front endpaper. The dust jacket is very good. Worn and slightly chipped to top edge, small pieces missing from base of spine and lower corner, and a 3" split in the rear spine fold. Looks good behind the acetate.
