Are you interested in a teen/young adult outdoor adventure? Do you enjoy having a little magical realism added to complicate things? Are you up for Robby Robertson’s Dangerous Adventures?
Do you want to go mountain climbing, high Himalayan trekking, or desert canyon exploring? Do you want an adventure series for both boys and girls? Do you want to meet two 14-year-old friends, Max and Hillary, that learn to understand, support, and like each other? If so, Dangerous Adventures is the novel series for you!
My Talisman is a fast-paced, modern, outdoor adventure based on historical relics and beliefs of the Himalayan people in the tiny kingdom of Bhutan. This is a true outdoor adventure mixed with a twist of Himalayan magical realism. The talisman in the story is the Kailash Dhanaraksha Yantra and if you’re curious enough --- Google it!
Recovered from the aftermath of his Mt Rainier tragedy, Max wants to return to the mountains. He is also beginning to realize he has an unexpected sensitivity—something he doesn’t really want—or want to talk about. Max volunteers to help his grandfather deliver a mythical talisman to a monastery in one of Bhutan’s high Himalayan passes. This seems a safe outdoor adventure--if you don’t know about the powerful people that would do anything to possess the talisman.
Max meets Hillary, a red-headed Scottish girl, in Bhutan’s capital. Their meeting doesn’t go well. Unhappily, they end up on the same trek. Worse, Max needs her help because of poachers, mountain tigers, Chinese Special Forces seeking the talisman, and a cranky Tibetan dakini who believes the talisman is hers. Max and Hillary need each other to survive. Will they be able to work together?
Book 2 in the Dangerous Adventure Series, My Talisman, is a realistic, modern-day trek in Bhutan’s high Himalayan mountains. Robby, the author, didn’t just research the story, he spent three weeks trekking in Bhutan so he writes from experience. My Talisman will suit anyone who enjoyed Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet or Roland Smith’s Peak Marcello stories.
