About the Author: Dr. Fernandez is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of clinical experience. He received a PhD from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and completed a Fellowship in Health Psychology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables Florida. He is also Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He has provided direct services to children, adolescents, and adult population in both outpatient and inpatient settings although his primary experience has been in outpatient specialty clinics. He has worked as Department Head or Director in several Mental Health Departments and Clinics. He has also conducted conferences and presented papers in various topics on Psychopathology and Psychotherapy in Latin America and also Europe. He has been Adjunct Professor of Psychology for the University of Maryland European Division and Florida International University in Miami Florida. Early in his career, and while still in training, he became intrigued by Existential-Phenomenology and its application in understanding human conflicts. The philosophers Soren Kierkegaard and Martin Heidegger have been particularly influential in his thinking. Dr. Fernandez is a US Veteran, who served as a paratrooper with the famed 82nd ABN Division, and later on in his life, as a Clinical Psychologist with the US Navy, from which he retired with the Rank of Commander. He is married and has three wonderful children and so far, three gorgeous grandchildren. Besides his interest in Psychology and Philosophy, Dr. Fernandez is an armchair historian. He loves languages and cultures and likes to travel as much as he can afford. Faith, family, and friends remain the most important values and treasure in his life.
