Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Food could proclaim abundance, bind a household, reward loyalty, or reveal dependence. Moving from communal meals and elite banquets to rationing, markets, and hunger, this book explores the political and social life of eating. It treats cuisine as evidence of trade and exchange, but also of the unequal control over land, labor, and survival. Readers see civilization from the table upward.
