Rebacked with old red leather spine label retained. Rear cover with area of rubbing. Original endpapers, browned, with previous owner's in ink, dated 1837 and 1897. One owner's name also located at top of title-page, small red numeral. See photo. xiv, 15-398. The volume was edited by Xavier Bichat, translated from the French by Charles Caldwell, M.D. Three full-page plates, some browning and old water-stain top free corner. See photo. Pierre-Joseph Desault (1738-1795) was a French anatomist and one of the leading surgeons in France at that time. He established the clinical school of surgery at the Hotel Dieu.
