Original printed patterned covers and printed title labels. Illustrated throughout with b+w wood engravings and what appears to be the occasional copper engraving, along with a very few color woodblock prints. A very interesting and exhaustive look at the customs of a To^kyo^ deep into the process of transition from the traditional to the "modern" amalgam of cultural elements that was 20th century Japan. Written on the eve of the Russo-Japanese War which would hasten that transition. Well known as an important piece of early scholarship on the subject, this original edition is by no means common.
