Maestro Impro™ is an ensemble format featuring a large cast and directors. The show structure is an elimination format where a mix of improvisers are randomly chosen to play scenes with each other. Two Directors set up scenes and (if necessary) direct the players when needed. All scenes are scored by the audience based on how much they enjoyed it. The players given the highest scores continue while those with lower scores leave the show, eliminated after each round until only one improviser remains. This player is The Maestro.
The performers understand that Maestro is most effectively played with benevolence and good nature towards the other players, with the ultimate goal of creating an enjoyable evening for the audience leaving them with memories of engaging scenes full of variety.
This official guide book, approved by Keith Johnstone, is a resource for information and inspiration about how to play Maestro Impro™. It has been created to provide assistance for groups just starting out, to give direction to those who are unsure if they are heading in the right direction, and as a reminder to groups who have been playing a long time.

About the Author
Shawn's home base is Canada which he is rarely in. He works with people in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australasia and Africa 9 months of the year. Broadly speaking, Shawn teaches workshops and performs. More specifically he engages performers, businesses people, health care professionals, education experts, scientists, toymakers, dancers, psychologists and even the military in various forms of improvisation and movement to make their world a little better. Over the past three decades Shawn has been asked to teach in 43 countries. Memorable visits include Universities in Oxford and Cambridge, a roofless building in Peru, the National Theatre of Iceland, and Opera of Norway, a Favela in Brazil, palaces in Germany, circuses in Poland and Colombia. Shawn is proud to be one of the few Impro teachers authorized by the International Theatresports Institute to teach Keith Johnstone's formats Theatresports(TM), Maestro Impro(TM) and Gorilla Theatre(TM).
In 1987 Steve stumbled onto improvisation at Loose Moose Theatre in Calgary. Spontaneity, play and accepting ideas made sense to him but his responsible side said "go back to school". He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Calgary with Keith Johnstone as his acting teacher. Today Steve teaches Keith's half (trance) mask technique and Impro. He integrates full masks, puppetry, and clowning into improvisation courses and shows topics around the world.He shares his time between Banff, Canada and Stuttgart, Germany. In Canada, He produces and performs nature and children's theatre writing and devising plays for schools, museums, zoos and national parks. In Germany he plays improvisation and scripted theatre with Improtheater Stuttgart. Projects include a play about dementia, a kid's touring show about climate change, teaching and developing improvisation formats locally, and performing in regular Impro shows.Steve is proud to be one of the few Impro teachers authorized by the International Theatresports Institute to teach Keith Johnstone's formats Theatresports(TM), Maestro Impro(TM) and Gorilla Theatre(TM).

Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.
Information regarding the right of withdrawal
Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to AHA-BUCH GmbH, Einbeck, Germany, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
