We are losing good teachers at an alarming rate. Navigating pandemic and post-pandemic teaching conditions and the ongoing fallout thereof has taken a toll on the well-being of our nation's educators, with multiple state education agencies warning of the largest teacher shortage in history.
This book offers hope and practical, proven tools to intentionally create a different reality for educators this school year.
Teachers are being asked to do more than they ever thought they would, and that increase in workload and stress, compounded by a simultaneous decrease in solace from work, lack of opportunities to care for themselves, and waning compassion satisfaction is leading to widespread burnout and teachers leaving their once-beloved profession.
This book is for you:
- If you are one of those teachers who is hanging on by a thread, this book will not just help you heal your burnout, it will help you increase compassion satisfaction and other proven techniques to build up long-term burnout resistance and resilience.
- If you are an administrator wanting to hold onto your best teachers, increase their job satisfaction, and improve your school's culture and morale all around, this book will help you understand and implement the THRIV™ model for burnout prevention and recovery.
- If you are a parent, this book will teach you how to be a compassionate ally in the education of your, and all our children.
This is not another burnout recovery book with demands to remember your "why" and push through the discomfort with self-care. THRIVing After Burnout, with daily action steps and brilliantly insightful tools for any profession, offers a compassionate path forward - a path where you honor your humanness, learn to detach from work, build up your social support system, ignite compassion satisfaction, and care for yourself in meaningful ways you desire.
Getting through the year without experiencing debilitating burnout is not just a matter of having the traits of a good teacher; it is a matter of having the right tools and a compassionate view of yourself. Dr. Jen Johnson scoured the existing research on burnout recovery and well-being across stressful professions and has curated a set of practical, evidence-based strategies that are high impact and easily implemented without expensive commitment to capitalistic self-care. Each strategy is accompanied by stories from her varied work with teachers as a colleague, instructional specialist, teacher trainer, and private coaching practice, in addition to her own personal struggles with burnout. Now she teaches in school districts around the country offering professional development, keynote speeches, and coaching to help teachers, campus administrators, and whole districts analyze their individual and organizational burnout and develop evidence-based solutions using her book and THRIV™ Community as tools for growth.

- The science behind burnout and why it matters in education
