"Thriving Together: 5 Secrets to Ministry Team Success" is a valuable resource for anyone leading a ministry team. Its practical advice, focus on biblical principles, and real-life examples make it an invaluable tool for building a successful and cohesive team. Whether you're just starting out as a ministry leader or you're looking to take your team to the next level, this book has something to offer.
Leading any team can have its challenges. Leading teams responsible for protecting others brings with it a whole different dynamic. In both situations, the Bible is the best place to look for the why of leadership and the how. Author James McGarvey, Ph.D, draws on examples from the Bible to provide a solid foundation for his advice, making it applicable in any ministry context. He also provides real-life examples of successful ministry teams and leaders, helping readers see how the discussed principles can be put into practice.
This book is a must-read if you want to build a successful and cohesive ministry team. Dr. McGarvey outlines five secrets to building a successful team: set clear goals, build trust, develop your team, demonstrate empathy, and lead with vision. By following the advice in this book, you can build a team that is successful in achieving its goals while being supportive and compassionate towards one another.
Dustin Alley, Lead Pastor, Liberty Baptist Church, Bristol, CT
It was an excellent reminder of the responsibilities of the leader in “any” church leadership roll, as well as those that are called to paid positions within church ministry. I found the fifth chapter to be the most impactful for me personally, and what I am currently working on in myself.
Aaron Taylor - Director of Safety and Security - Connection Church
If you are in a position to lead people, you need this book. Super relational, super practical and has a "can do" spirit. James' heart to lead others as well as share best practices from years of ministry shines through. It really feels like I'm reading a book from someone who wants to help people be effective leaders - but not in a "preachy" way. It is a down to earth, practical way of understanding the nature of leadership in ministry. In leadership, one size does not fit all, and this book is instantly applicable. In a genre of leadership books, this one stands out as one that presents Biblical wisdom, demonstrates caring for others and is instantly easy to apply to my life. I'm a big fan of the relationship first mentality.
Joseph McGarvey- Pastoral Assistant and Sacred Cows- Podcast Host
A quick read that is very well done and helps individuals in ministry prioritize what is important. As leaders we are obligated to treat our volunteers well, and show them that we are all working together and care about them. While that may be easy to forget sometimes, James' guidance on helping volunteers feel valued is crucial.
Chris Lawrence - Church Safety Director - The Forge Christian Ministries
This book is not only for church safety teams, but truly any ministry within the church or place of worship. The suggestions are extremely practical and applicable to betting the operations of the church and any environment where individuals are serving. I strongly recommend it.
