Item description from seller

Third revised edition of this little mathematical text, a beautiful example of the materials used in the binding of 19th-century school books. The composite boards of this collection of mathematical exercises are a combination of pulped cardboard and woody particles; they may be an example of strawboard, an inexpensive material made from straw pulp that would have been appealing for a publisher concerned with keeping their books affordable. 12mo. 6'' x 3.75''. Original purple cloth-backed pink paper-covered composite pulp boards. 78 pages. Contemporary trade card for "S. A. Hall, / Wholesale Confectioner, / Cambridgeport" loosely laid in, with small pencil sketch to rear. Contemporary owner's name to third blank, "Anna C. Cross" dated Jan. 27, 1868. Front board paper largely effaced; front pastedown lacking. Binding with sunning to spine, some edgewear; light soil to rear. Endpapers with foxing; moderate chip in gutter of front flyleaf.
