8vo. 7.5 x 5 inches. 160 pp. Title page in red and black. Bound in original red cloth with gilt and black titles and black blocks on front board and spine. Spine sunned and browning of flyleaves; otherwise a very good copy. Decorated by title page and pastedown vignettes. Short biography of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881), Scottish historian, essayist and philosopher in the publisher's Famous Scots series. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields.
