About this Item
Rebacked with brown cloth lettered in gilt. New endpapers. Moderate foxing to text block. A kindly-preserved copy. This book is apparently the first medical book published in Missouri and possibly the first medical book printed in English to be published west of the Mississippi River. John Sappington (1776-1856) was a Missouri physician who used quininie extracted from the cinchona tree bark to treat a variety of fevers including malaria which was endemic to the Missouri Valley. He sold his "anti-fever pills" nationwide and made quite a fortune doing so. 216pp. Size: 6 3/4" x 4 1/2". Seller Inventory # 015763
