This study argues that Eliot's poetry is significantly Virgilian. The author examines "La Figlia Che Piange", "The Waste Land", "The Hollow Men", "Ash-Wednesday", "Coriolan" and "Four Quartets" in the light of this appraisal, regarding Virgil as a pervasive if changing presence in Eliot's work. Reeves distinguishes between the Christianized version of Virgil in Eliot's later poetry and essays, and the apocalyptic Virgil behind "The Waste Land". He believes that Virgil informs not only Eliot's poetry, but also his ideas about politics, society, religion and literature.
