System-Wise Risk Adjustment Coding for CRC: Neurological & Endocrine Systems is a practical, system-focused guide designed to help CRC learners and Risk Adjustment professionals connect clinical knowledge with documentation, ICD-10-CM coding, MEAT, HCC concepts, V24/V28 considerations, and real-world coding decisions.
This volume focuses on two clinically important areas: the Neurological System and the Endocrine System.
Rather than relying on memorization alone, the book encourages readers to understand the clinical condition, identify what the provider actually documented, recognize important complications and relationships, evaluate current disease management, and make defensible coding decisions.
Inside this book, readers will explore:- High-yield neurological conditions and their CRC relevance
- Stroke and cerebrovascular conditions
- Seizure and epilepsy concepts
- Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, dementia, and other neurological conditions
- Major endocrine conditions, including diabetes and thyroid disorders
- Diabetes complications and documented relationships
- Adrenal, pituitary, parathyroid, and other endocrine disorders
- Clinical documentation review
- MEAT application in neurological and endocrine conditions
- ICD-10-CM coding decision-making
- Documentation specificity and combination-code considerations
- Distinguishing documented diagnoses from symptoms, laboratory findings, and medication evidence
- Current versus historical conditions
- HCC awareness and Risk Adjustment considerations
- V24/V28 model awareness
- Real-world coding scenarios and practical decision-making
Each chapter is designed to move from clinical understanding to coding application, helping readers develop the reasoning skills needed for actual chart review.
The book also includes five ICD-10-CM coding-focused multiple-choice questions after each chapter, allowing readers to practice applying the concepts rather than simply reading them.
A practical CRC learning sequenceUnderstand the condition → Review the documentation → Identify MEAT → Determine ICD-10-CM specificity → Validate the coding decision → Consider Risk Adjustment
This book is intended for CRC candidates, medical coders, Risk Adjustment professionals, healthcare professionals, students, trainers, and learners who want a practical reference for understanding neurological and endocrine conditions in the context of Risk Adjustment coding.
The goal is simple:
Understand the clinical picture. Trust the documentation. Apply the coding rules. Make a defensible decision.
