Synthesis, Properties, and Applications of 2D Materials addresses the fundamentals, synthesis, properties, and a range of applications of 2D materials. It is the first of three related volumes that examine the full scope of 2D materials, specifically covering the basic theory and chemistry of 2D materials (including both theoretical and experimental dimensions), various heterostructures based on 2D materials, the impact of surface modifications and defect engineering, and a comparative analysis of a spectrum of 2D materials to demonstrate their respective properties.
To cover such a wide range of aspects, chapters have been contributed by well-established research groups focusing on 2D materials surface chemistry, 2D materials-based heterostructures, applications of 2D materials, and the most recent developments in the field. Not only does the book highlight the immense potential and possibilities of these exciting emerging materials, it also outlines the limitations and challenges ahead.
The other two related volumes are Crystalline Metal Organic Frameworks as Emerging 2D Materials and Crystalline Covalent Organic Frameworks as Emerging 2D Materials.

Dr. Mohammad Jawaid is currently affiliated with the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at United Arab Emirates University. Previously he was a senior fellow (professor) in the Laboratory of Biocomposites Technology at the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is an eminent scientist with more than twenty years of teaching, and research experience in composite materials. His research interests include hybrid reinforced/filled polymer composites, and advanced materials such as graphene/
nanoclay/fire retardant, lignocellulosic reinforced/filled polymer composites, and the modification and treatment of lignocellulosic fibres and solid wood, and nanocomposites and nanocellulose fibres.
Vijay Kumar Thakur is currently a Professor in the Biorefining and Advanced Materials Research Centre at SRUC, Edinburgh, U.K. He holds an Adjunct Professor position in the Research School of Polymeric Materials, Jiangsu University, China and is a Visiting Professor at Shiv Nadar University, India, and Visitor at Cranfield University, U.K. He has previously held faculty positions at Cranfield University, U.K., Washington State University, U.S.A., and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His research activities span the disciplines of Biorefining, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, and Nanotechnology, as well as all aspects of Sustainable and Advanced Materials. He has published over 200 SCI journal articles, 2 patents, 50 books, and 37 book chapters in areas concerning polymers, nanotechnology, and materials science. He sits on the editorial board of several SCI journals (e.g., Nature Scientific Reports, Journal of Renewable Materials, Advances in Polymer Technology, International Journal of Polymer Analysis and Characterization, Polymers for Advanced Technologies, Biomolecules, Nanomaterials, Surfaces and Interfaces, Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy, Current Opinion in Green and Sustainable Chemistry, and Nano-Structures & Nano-Objects) as an Editor or Editorial Advisory Board member.
He is currently an aerospace researcher in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. Universiti Putra Malaysia. He has good number of publications and research grants in his favour. His research focus on insect inspired miniaturized robots for planetary studies, advanced aerospace materials (bio, natural or Nano) at all the scales, CFD, high performance computing and modelling, unsteady aerodynamics, space debris removal and space systems engineering.
