The first book by the great French radical historian Maurice Dommanget (1888–1976) to be translated into English, this book is an engaging, sympathetic telling of the life and works of Sylvain Mar�chal (1750–1803), an unjustly forgotten figure of the French Revolutionary era. Mar�chal was not only a militant atheist and opponent of royalty, but, as the author of the Manifesto of the Equals he laid the groundwork for modern communism.

About the Author

Mitchell Abidor is a Brooklyn-born writer and translator. He has published over a dozen books, largely focusing on French radical history, including A Socialist History of the French Revolution by Jean Jaur�s and Victor Serge's Notebooks, 1936–1947. His writings have appeared in publications in the United States, France, Brazil, and Germany.
