Synopsis

To Sweeten the Bitter is a collection by British Jamaican poet, Raymond Antrobus.

After the death of his father, Raymond returns to Jamaica but restless questions begin to unearth inside him (Who I am now is something I need to remember).

Upon returning to the UK Raymond travelled to Bristol, Liverpool, Hastings, Hull and around London to meditate in the places where the pain and grief of history is bigger than his own.

About the Author

Raymond Antrobus is a British Jamaican poet, performer, editor and poetry educator born and bred in East London, Hackney. He is one of the world s first recipients of an MA in Spoken Word Education from Goldsmiths University. In 2017 he became one of the first recipients of the Jerwood Compton Poetry Fellowship. His poems have appeared in The Poetry Review, Poetry Magazine (US) among others. His first short collection of poems - Shapes & Disfigurements Of Raymond Antrobus (2012) - is published by Burning Eye Books. His critically acclaimed second short collection, To Sweeten Bitter (2017) is published by Outspoken Press. His debut full collection of poetry will be published by Penned In The Margins (2018).
