Paperback. A dead owner. A factory about to disappear. A secret that has survived for twenty-seven years. When Gabriel Brena is found dead inside the old roasting room of his family's chocolate factory, everything points toward an industrial accident. The gas was running. The room was locked. And with the company days away from being sold, almost everyone had a reason to hate him.Commissioner Lucien knows better than to trust a story simply because it arrives fully formed.A wound behind the victim's ear, a sabotaged surveillance system, a missing computer and files hidden deep inside the factory lead him away from Gabriel's death-and toward another man who vanished in 1998. A man the records say left his shift. A man whose family was paid for decades afterward. A man someone made certain would never speak again. Now every answer threatens something larger than a murder investigation: a family name, forty-seven livelihoods, and an entire history built upon silence.Because some crimes are committed in a single night.Others take decades to finish. The Sweet Bitterness of Crime is the second Lucien novel by Blake Noir: a dark, atmospheric crime mystery about buried guilt, inherited debts, and the dangerous moment when the past finally demands an accounting. A dead owner. A factory about to disappear. A secret that has survived for twenty-seven years.
When Gabriel Brena is found dead inside the old roasting room of his family's chocolate factory, everything points toward an industrial accident. The gas was running. The room was locked. And with the company days away from being sold, almost everyone had a reason to hate him.
Commissioner Lucien knows better than to trust a story simply because it arrives fully formed.
A wound behind the victim's ear, a sabotaged surveillance system, a missing computer and files hidden deep inside the factory lead him away from Gabriel's death-and toward another man who vanished in 1998. A man the records say left his shift. A man whose family was paid for decades afterward. A man someone made certain would never speak again.
Now every answer threatens something larger than a murder investigation: a family name, forty-seven livelihoods, and an entire history built upon silence.
Because some crimes are committed in a single night.
Others take decades to finish.
The Sweet Bitterness of Crime is the second Lucien novel by Blake Noir: a dark, atmospheric crime mystery about buried guilt, inherited debts, and the dangerous moment when the past finally demands an accounting.

About the Author
Blake Noir -
Blake Noir is a bestselling author of detective fiction, crime novels, and psychological mysteries. His work is defined by tightly constructed plots, morally complex characters, and investigations in which every clue, contradiction, and silence carries weight. With a style rooted in classic noir but shaped by contemporary narrative tension, Noir builds stories around deception, obsession, hidden motives, and the fragile line between justice and guilt. His novels favor atmosphere over spectacle and intellectual suspense over easy answers, leading readers through carefully layered cases where the truth is rarely what it first appears to be.
