Neuware - THE SIGNAL IS IMPOSSIBLE. THE VISITORS ARE REAL. THE REST HAS TO BE PROVED. An authenticated signal has come from a ship that cannot be where the record says it is. Ensign Sarah Bishop is sent to Hart Settlement to establish what can actually be proved. Then unfamiliar machines appear above a colony of 19,700 people and begin recording it. The visitors do not explain themselves. They react to some things and ignore others. Every theory about what they want creates a new way to be wrong. Hart still has to make decisions. Sarah's job is no longer to solve an anomaly. It is to keep observation separate from story while soldiers, engineers and civilians act on whatever survives that test. Because the worst mistake may not be misunderstanding the visitors. It may be believing the humans caused anything they do. The Surveyors is Book One of The Chosen Dark, a hard science fiction trilogy set in the Fracture Cosmology universe.
