Item description from seller

Reprint. 273 pages. 8vo. 9.25 x 6.25 inches. Original red pebbled cloth with decoration and lettering on front panel and spine. A bright clean copy with just a few blemishes to the binding. Boards. Reprints Kiely's 'Surveying Instruments Their History and Classroom Work' from 1947 but without the chapter on Development of Practical Geometry in the Schools, the Appendix, and Chapter on Applications of Geometry, Trigonometry in Simple Surveying. The result is that the book is purely historically focused. This reprint used much higher quality paper making it easier to use. The illustrations are nearly as good as the original. The book provides a historical view of surveying starting in the very early times in Egypt, China and Babylonia, followed by Developments in Greece and Rome, Contributions of Medieval Europe, Islam, and India, Advancements in Europe during the Renaissance. Includes an extensive bibliography, and new index.
