Full extent of America s tactical ineptitude and the amazing opportunity it provides. With the small-unit stratagems in this book, U.S. commanders can now perform the state of the art for any 3GW maneuver. It derives from the combined research of the world s other major armies. Advanced squad tactics are involved, so America s junior enlisted and NCOs will also be interested. More U.S. wars can now be won and lives saved.
About the Author: After 28 years of commissioned and noncommissioned infantry service, John Poole retired from the USMC in April 1993. While on active duty, he studied small-unit tactics for nine years: (1) six months at the Basic School in Quantico (1966); (2) seven months as a rifle platoon commander in Vietnam (1966-67); (3) three months as a rifle company commander at Camp Pendleton (1967); (4) five months as a regimental headquarters company (and camp) commander in Vietnam (1968); (5) eight months as a rifle company commander in Vietnam (1968-69); (6) five and a half years as an instructor with the Advanced Infantry Training Company (AITC) at Camp Lejeune (1986-92); and (7) one year as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC) of the 3rd Marine Division Combat Squad Leaders Course (CSLC) on Okinawa (1992-93).In the 25 years since retirement, Poole has researched the small-unit tactics of other nations and written 18 other books.Since retirement, Poole has traveled extensively in both Communist and Islamist worlds to study the infantry tactics of America's enemies. He has done research in Mainland China (twice), North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Pakistan (twice), Bangladesh, Malaysia, Iran, Lebanon, Turkey, the Emirates, Egypt, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa, Morocco, and Venezuela.Over the course of his lifetime, he has visited scores of other nations on all five continents.Several periods in Poole's life have qualified him to accurately mirror the viewpoints of America's true fighters -- its junior enlisted infantrymen. In 1965, his first official orders were for Private Poole. From 1992 to 1993, he served as SNCOIC of a divisional squad leaders school. Then, almost all of the 1100 students who attended his post-retirement training sessions were E-5's and below.Poole is one of the very few Americans with an extensive enough background to know how to fix the ongoing tactical shortfall within the U.S. military. After some 60 multi-day training sessions at different active-duty units, he has developed, tested, and refined its solution (through a bottom-up training supplement). He has also become adept at the now virtually lost art of field training light infantrymen (those who are able do well on their own in the absence of orders).
