About the Author

Super Emotions! A Book for Children with ADHD is a new book from author/illustrator Lionel Lowry IV that has been written to empower children and help them to take control of their "Super Emotions." The fun illustrations and Seussian language will engage young children and help them remember the simple but powerful lessons that Lowry lays out in his book. "Children are amazing, and can do amazing things," says Lionel. "We just need to hold them to a higher standard than society does. Letting kids be kids makes sense to a point. Then it takes the life lessons of an adult shared with a child to help them channel their passions, energy, fears, hopes and dreams. We are not born knowing how to handle our feelings. It takes time, practice and guidance." "I will remember what it's like to be a kid." That is the promise that children's author Lionel Lowry made to himself when he was young. "It is my goal to honor that promise and to help children to the best of my ability," says Lowry. "Writing this book is part of that promise." "As adults we often tend to paint an idealized version of our childhood, leaving out the struggles and challenges we faced," Lowry explains. "Nightmares, bullies, bed-wetting, and abuse can all be very real parts of our formative years.Lionel Lowry with Super Emotions book for kids with adhd Many books have been written for parents about these experiences - it is my goal to write for the kids; to empower them with strategies, advice and hope, so that they may take steps to controlling their own destinies." "I was an emotional kid. I could have used a book like this to help me deal with life's challenges. My mother helped soothe my troubled thoughts when I was young by telling me stories of how I was going to successfully make my way through the next day, 'You are going to pay attention during reading time and bravely raise your hand to answer your teacher's questions,' is an example of what she might say. There's a bit of her narrative style in my book" said Lowry. Lowry concludes "It is our job to help our children discover who they are and give them the tools to live the lives they were born to live."
