Paperback. At the age of sixty and on blood pressure and cholesterol meds, Joe Savich is the least likely combat hero you could imagine. And he would be the first to laugh at the idea. But as he stares into his bleak future, after losing his wife to cancer and his job to a foreign company, he's suddenly compelled by the loss of his friend's son in combat to enlist in the US Army-and he won't take no for an answer. Sunset Patriot follows Joe on an incredible journey as he gets himself into physical shape, battles to win an age-discrimination case against the US government, and eventually gets the chance to prove his mettle as an unlikely soldier in Afghanistan. As Joe takes on the challenges of discrimination and actual combat, his courage and determination are put to the ultimate test. An inspiring tale that carries echoes of Hemingway in its struggle and style, Joe's story gets at the heart of an aging man's quest for purpose. Full of surprising action, unexpected romance, and insightful reflection, Sunset Patriot presents a new view of what your golden years can look like-if you're willing to reenlist in life.
