(Kelly & Walsh Ltd., Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong - [undated] Circa 1920). First Edition. Soft cover. A series of 38 Photogravure views in Sepia Tone. Publisher's original oblong brown paper-covered photo book with oval cut-out front cover. 38 views on 20 leaves. 12 are full page views; the other 8 pages contain 4 (with 2 views), and 2 with 4 and 5 views each. A near fine (or better) copy with all the views in excellent condition. The views are: Raffles Square, Collyer Quay, Meal Time, Tamil Festival, A Malay Wedding, Creek Scene, Bullock Cart. Singapore Harbour, Rubber Tapper, Malay Woman and Children, The Padang, Malay Mosque, Hindu Temple, Government Offices, Government House, Rubber Plantation, Coconut Tree, A Tamil in Search of Toddy (Hot), Durian Fruit, Post Office (Fullerton Building), St. Andrew's Cathedral, Raffles Museum, A Ricsha, Diving Boys, Victoria Theatre, Malay Village, Botanical Gardens, Singapore River and Fort Canning, Singapore Reservoir, High Street, Anderson Bridge, Chinese Street, Chinese Temple, Raffles Hotel, Europe Hotel, Traveller's Palms, Seaview Katong and Malay Village. A remarkable survival of a scarce piece of ephemera which was clearly not expected to be kept for posterity. This copy has escaped the fate which I suspect has befallen the majority of copies of this rare book i.e. to be broken up with the images sold individually.
