Teal green cloth decorated in blind & gilt, good outer joints, edge-worn with fraying at the spine ends, 7 x 4 3/4 inches. Three oval stamps in blue ink on the front end papers, "18th. Street Mission S.S." Several engravings, "The Young Chorister" as frontispiece; "Luther Singing in the Streets"; and, "Death of Little Magdalen." 271 pp. plus 3 pp. publisher's adverts. Shaken and not tight, with nothing detached. Stanford and Swords published primarily Anglican and Episcopal books. "New York: Billin & Brothers, Printers and Stereotypers, 20 North William Street" on the verso of the tp. Attributed to Mrs. E. Burrows at WorldCat. Not much is known of the author. She was English, a writer of books for children, and her works were first published in London.This written as a story in conversational form, with "the mist" are the dark days before the Protestant Reformation, and "the sunlight" being the revelation once again of the truth of God's word as rediscovered during the time of Luther. The story takes place during family devotional time, with the mother answering the questions of the children. …
