A selection of the 100 most remarkable lives as featured in The Sunday Times Magazine's A Life in the Day. Wonderfully intimate, often humorous and occasionally profound, these portraits make for absolutely addictive reading.
The first Life in the Day article appeared in the Sunday Times Magazine in 1977 and since then this highly successful feature has covered over 1,200 lives of the famous and not-so famous. This collection brings together 100 of the most interesting and unusual interviewees, from Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Colonel Gadaffi and Muhammad Ali to Kate Winslet, Michael Owen and Christopher Reeve. Illustrated throughout with photographs of the contributors, each interview includes a short update on 'where they are now'. This is irresistible reading for anyone interested in what world leaders have for breakfast and what film stars really do all day long.
“When you read A Life in the Day you ’ll surely say: “What the hell. My life is just as interesting.” And you're right. This series proves there's no such a thing as an ordinary life.In each life there are dreams, and, baby, if you can capture those dreams you have – sorry,I have to say it – you have literature.” Frank McCourt.
For over 25 years the Sunday Times' A Life in the Day column has been a national institution. Covering more than 1,200 lives of the famous - and not-so-famous - it has used the minutiae of everyday life to create some of the most revealing and individual portraits of the great and the good of the past quarter of a century.
Now this special collection brings together 100 of the most remarkable interviewees, from Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Colonel Gadaffi and Muhammad Ali to Kate Winslet, Michael Owen and Christopher Reeve. Equally compelling are the lives of so-called 'ordinary' people: from Roko Camaj, window cleaner at the World Trade Centre, to Mona Khatoum, a beggar on the streets of Calcutta. With updates for each interviewee on where they are now, this is irresistible reading for anyone interested in what world leaders have for breakfast, what film stars really do all day long - in fact what it's really like to be somebody else.
