Ex-library with typical marks, shelf wear, pages yellowing; a good sound binding. The dust jacket is creased, chipped and discolored; wrapped; glued inside the covers. "The background is bleeding Kansas in the period 1854-1861. Under the terms of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the settlers themselves were to decide whether the new territory was to enter as a free or slave state. The rush of organized armed hands from the north and south resulted in bloody conflicts, hundreds died in pitched battle. Into this cruel warfare, pioneering hardships, the blinding heat and bitter cold of Kansas, come a young Harvard instructor and his wife." Illustrator: . Quantity Available: 1.
