Sumatra, is an island in western Indonesia, to the west of the Sunda Islands. It is the largest island that is entirely in Indonesia (two larger islands, Borneo and New Guinea, are shared between Indonesia and other countries) and the sixth largest island in the world at 473,481 km2 with a current population of almost 50 million. Its biggest city is Medan with over 4 million in the greater urban area. Sumatra is an adventure, the kind of demanding ride that requires a dusty knapsack and tough traveling skin. Climb up the smoking volcano craters that ring the hill town of Berastagi, slog through muddy jungle paths and spot a wild orangutan high up in the canopy at Bukit Lawang, or scuba dive through a sculpted underwater landscape at Pulau Weh. This book offers information on Sumatra and its most notable places. 72 pp. Englisch.…
