A research project sponsored by Arabaian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO); in co-operation with Research Centre, Garyounis University, Benghazi, and Commission Internationale de Microflore du Paleozoique (C.I.M.P.). 'The knowledge of the biostratigraphy of this region was poorly known until 1960. Between 1960-1985, the oil industry carried out extensive drilling programmes which resulted in the availability of material for the first time for study.
