Item description from seller

FIRST EDITION, a few faint spots to prelims, recurrent at rear, pp. xii, 135, [2], 40 [Publisher's list, dated Feb. '07], foolscap 8vo, original blue cloth, lettered in white to backstrip and upper board, edges lightly spotted with tail edge roughtrimmed, a couple of tiny spots to free endpaper, grey printed dustjacket slightly nicked and creased at extremities, very good. A superbly preserved copy of this rare book by the eminent physicist, then Principal at the University of Birmingham (as the title-page refers). Lodge maintained, alongside his scientific pursuits, an enduring interest in both spiritualism and organised religion - here enlarging on the latter in a clear and concise manner, with a pedagogical purpose and with an emphasis on the mystical.
